The Chesapeake Real Estate Market and Area

There are approximately 2000 homes for sale in Chesapeake giving buyers many great opportunities to purchase their next home in one of the most sought after cities in Hampton Roads.  I think most would agree that Chesapeake, for the most part, doesn't feel as cluttered as some of it's neighboring towns.  You definitely sense that subdivisions in this area tend to have more trees and the lots are a little larger.  Compared to it's sister city, Virginia Beach, there aren't that many condo associations here.  Most residences are single family detached homes and townhomes.  Real estate is plentiful and most the homes that are for sale have been reduced a number of times already, in efforts to compete with the large amount of inventory.  You should be able to purchase a townhome for just under $200k or detached home starting in the low to mid $200k's. You can follow the links to the left to see the cheapest homes and the most expensive homes in Chesapeake.  The five main areas of the Chesapeake Real Estate market include Western Branch, Deep Creek, Greenbrier, Hickory, and Great Bridge. Western Branch is located along I664 next to Suffolk and Portsmouth near the Monitor Merrimac Bridge/Tunnel. Great Bridge is highly populated and gives residents the feel of being near the country and the city all at the same time. Hickory is very rural and many of the homes that are for sale have some of the biggest lots in Hampton Roads.  Greenbrier is the "big city" of Chesapeake, hosting a large mall, lots of shops, and low to high-end restaurants. There are many family friendly neighborhoods in the Chesapeake real estate market with great schools that buyers are sure to love. Click the "Search the MLS" button above or to the left to find all of the homes that are for sale in Chesapeake, using your own search criteria. There are plenty of choices and many motivated sellers, ready to make something happen.

The Area

Chesapeake is the 3rd largest city in Virginia with a population well over 220,000. There's a nice diversity of real estate with plenty of urban areas along with a huge rural section along the border of North Carolina. As with all of the other cities of Hampton Roads, Chesapeake offers its residents many opportunities to live on the water as well and there are quite a few homes for sale in Chesapeake that are waterfront.  Along with lots of lakes and tributaries, the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and the Dismal Swamp Canal run through the city.  Many residents feel that having different neighborhood styles is a good thing.  One homeowner may have a small yard with a motorcycle in the driveway while just a few miles away another resident may have 10 acres with 4 ATV's in the garage. The two biggest shopping areas of Chesapeake are in Western Branch and Greenbrier.  Western Branch offers the Chesapeake Square Mall, Sam's Club, and many smaller stores.  With the addition of the new Towne Center, Greenbrier is hard charged to compete with Virginia Beach and downtown Norfolk for upscale dining and shopping. This section also has the Greenbrier Mall, Smokey Bones, Barnes & Noble, and Target. Two of the more popular and sought out schools in Chesapeake are Hickory High School, which is located in the more rural section of the city, and Great Bridge High School, located north of Hickory in a more populated area. Grassfield High School is brand new and is located near Deep Creek. Chesapeake real estate has a lot to offer.  It's a great place to live for family fun, city life, or hunting and fishing.  Be sure to check out all of the links here for additional information.
